Village Street Roof Garden

The Village Street Roof Garden was developed for friends Dan and Caitlin, who came to us looking for a space in which to cultivate vegetables, dwell with friends, and experience the atmosphere of the sky above. In response, we emphasized the meditative aspects of outdoor cultivation through simple forms and material choices. Wooden planters are reminiscent of altars, a circular plinth forms the only furnishing, and a canopy of strung rope provides shade while still allowing views through to the night sky. Once completed, the project will offer a restful haven in which gardening is prayer.
